East Wolds and Coastal

I have lived all my life in the East Riding. My wife and I have been fortunate to see our family grow in such a wonderful location. Originally from an agricultural background I now have businesses involved in IT and construction.

Although relatively recently elected as an ERYC Councillor I was a member of the former East Riding Council over 30 years ago and have seen many changes in the way local government and services in the area have developed.

Our ward is a large and diverse area of the East Riding. My first priority is to work with my fellow Councillors to support our parishes and residents on the wide range of issues that affect them.

In addition to this I also sit on three of the ERYC overview and scrutiny committees which look at a wide range of services and provisions that affect our area. A few of the items I am involved in are listed below.

Urgent Care (Health) Having been instrumental in the referral of the current proposals to the Secretary of State for Health because of the inadequate provision particularly for our more rural residents I am continuing to press for improved access and better GP provision to make up for the current inadequacies. This will be under review toward the middle of 2019.

Ambulance response rates. Despite the failure of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to provide adequate details of their service in the East Riding I have gained information of over 300,000 999 calls which show some of our residents are not getting the service they should. We need to ensure this is addressed.

Policing. The current Police and Crime Commissioner claims to be providing a substantial increase in police officer numbers. We need to ensure this is the case and that the East Riding receives an appropriate share of these additional resources.

Housing, particularly affordable housing is a priority. There has been some improvement in the East Riding but there is much more to do to meet this need especially for younger residents who simply cannot afford to get on the housing ladder.

The future may present challenges but there are great opportunities for the East Riding. The potential for economic growth is good. We need to ensure we plan for this to deliver this potential. We need to continue the savings and efficiency programmes within the ERYC. We need to seek opportunities to boost revenue income to ensure we can maintain the high level and quality of services we enjoy today whilst providing the best value for our residents.
